Atalanta 2-2 Man Utd: The Results

Ole Solskjaer cqam into this game as a man with less weight on his shoulders because not so long a go there was talk about him potentially getting axed. He redeemed himself during the weekend in the Premier League game against Tottenham which saw him come with a system change.

The same system was implemented today thus changing personnel with Lindelof Fred Greenwood were left out from the 11 that started in Manchester. they were replaced by Bailly Pogba and Varane. Gasperini on the other hand made only one change removing Luis Muriel for his country-mate Zapata.

United started the game hot on the heels of the Italian outfit and handed Atalanta their fist scare when Koopmeiners’ short ball didn’t work out and was found with United on the attack. McTominay’s attempt got a deflection and hit the upright in the 5th minute.

A mistake from the red devils saw Zapata find Ilicic who made no mistake and buried hos chance thanks to De Gea’s sloppy handling of the ball which was squeezed underneath his armpits but it took a while for the game the goal meant united hasn’t kept consecutive clean sheets since March. That mistake wasn’t the last as Pogba’s misahap found Zapata but fortunately Eric Bailly was there to save the day int the 31st minute.

Manchester United was off the pace for most of the first half but it only took one moment of brilliance to undo Atalanta. The equaliser came in added time of the first half when Fernandes found Ronaldo who has now scored in every group stage game this season.

Keeping an eye on the Manchester Derby, United would be without Raphael Varane who was injured in 57 minute without contact from anybody. He has recently come back from injury but with the performance that Eric Bailly pulled off today, the United might be not so concerned because it seems they are in safe hands.

The third goal in the game came in the minute when Freuler found Zapata and the Colombian made sure to finish his chance. And like the first goal, VAR had to intervene to see if there Zapata was in an offside position when he goal came it was a lengthy check for offside but it was onside.

It seems that it wouldn’t be a comeback without a Ronaldo goal right? Well that’s true because yet again ,Ronaldo was Man United’s saving grace as he scored added time of the second half to ensure the result favours United and their fate remains in their hands.
